Leeds United transfer news: Joel Piroe medical, Nico Elvedi deadline, Sebastiaan Bornauw exit

The latest Leeds United transfer news throughout the day including updates on Joel Piroe’s exit and Nico Elvedi’s arrival.

Leeds United have exactly two weeks to complete their summer transfer business ahead of the 11pm deadline on September 1.

The Whites have enjoyed a solid transfer window so far, albeit one that feels a touch quieter than last summer’s post-promotion influx. Three signings have arrived with goalkeeper James Trafford joining defender Tarik Muharemovic and winger Harry Wilson earlier this month.

All three arrivals have the potential to improve Daniel Farke’s starting-XI and all have settled into their new surroundings through pre-season. A fourth could be set to follow them through the door soon amid reports centre-back Nico Elvedi is close to joining on a permanent deal.

Elvedi was not in Borussia Monchengladbach’s pre-season squad against Aston Villa on Saturday with head coach Eugen Polanski admitting his exit will be a ‘big blow’. The 29-year-old was in England undergoing medical tests on Monday and should be registered in time to feature this weekend.

The deadline for Leeds to get it done is mid-day on Friday, allowing them four days to get everything signed and sent off to the Premier League. Meanwhile, the man Elvedi is set to replace, Sebastiaan Bornauw, also appears close to having his loan move to Hamburg confirmed.

Bornauw also underwent medical tests on Monday ahead of a season-long loan, with Hamburg holding an option to make the deal permanent. And he could soon be followed by another first-team fringe player in Joel Piroe, who looks set to drop back into the Championship.

Piroe is believed to be closing in on a loan to recently-relegated West Ham United, who head coach Nuno Espirito Santo admits are in need of attacking reinforcements. As of Monday evening, the Suriname international was thought to be on his way down to London, with the Hammers obligated to make his move permanent if they’re promoted.

Leeds are expected to keep busy in these final two weeks, with Elvedi the latest in a number of squad gaps that need filling. The Whites would also like striker competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a difference-making attacker who can play mostly on the left, while left-sided defensive cover and a back-up goalkeeper are also wanted.
