Leeds United sent Harry Wilson transfer message by Elland Road legend as big Fulham decision looms
Leeds United tried to sign Fulham's Welsh international star last summer.
‘Feared’ free agent Harry Wilson could be worth 10 goals a season for Leeds United, says club legend Gordon Strachan.
Wilson was a deadline-day target for Leeds last summer but their move for the Welshman fell through at the death. He went on to register 10 goals and seven assists in 36 Premier League games for Fulham during the 2025/26 campaign - which could prove his last at Craven Cottage.
The Welshman is out of contract at Fulham this summer and despite confirmation this week of fresh terms being offered, there will be no shortage of suitors elsewhere. Leeds are unlikely to have lost interest in Wilson, given his form and the need for a right-wing/No.10 profile in Daniel Farke’s squad.
"Harry Wilson to Leeds United? There are 10 goals a season in there,” Strachan is quoted as saying by Wales Online, speaking to Andy's Bet Club. “I think he'd be a great signing. He can score 10 goals a season in the Premier League and he's free, that's definitely something to be looked at. Absolutely.”
Leeds were the only known team pushing for Wilson at the end of last summer but competition will be fierce this time round. Not only has a price-tag of up to £10m been slashed to nothing, the 29-year-old enters this window off the back of his most productive ever top-flight campaign.
Wilson had shown sparks of being a regular threat with double-figure goalscoring campaigns at Derby County and during his first year at Fulham, albeit both were in the Championship. In three previous Premier League seasons at Craven Cottage he netted 12 times combined, registering another 10 assists.
Leeds United legend praises Harry Wilson as Fulham future uncertain
"He's a guy who's taken a while to find his feet,” Strachan added. “He wasn't a superstar kid, but now he looks to be a real asset. He looks to have taken responsibility at Fulham and he is a feared Premier League forward now, on the right side of the box he is a big threat."
Leeds will be expected to prioritise attacking difference-makers during this summer’s window, having raised the floor with strong defensive foundations following promotion. They remain in the market for a player matching Wilson’s profile while a January bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen is evidence Farke could want another top-class striker.
“Last season, we were a newly-promoted side, a Championship club that had to basically build on the fly,” chairman Paraag Marathe recently told the YEP and other outlets. “So now it's a higher bar.
“And so just by the nature of that, I think there'll be fewer [but] that are more high quality, just because to get into our squad and to get onto the pitch is a much higher bar than it was 12 months ago. So we're looking to sprinkle in some additions that really help us. And at the same time, there'll be some outs."
