Leeds United transfer target spotted training at former club with Arsenal star

Leeds United remain in talks with Julian Brandt over a potential move.

Leeds United summer transfer target Julian Brandt has been spotted training at a former home with a decision on his future yet to be made.

Brandt is currently a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season. The 30-year-old spent seven seasons at Signal Iduna Park, playing more than 300 games across all competitions including in the Champions League.

As reported by the YEP, Brandt’s father Jurgen was at Thorp Arch for talks although Leeds are not the only club in for the attacking midfielder. Reports elsewhere suggest he is leaning towards a Premier League move.

With his future still undecided and no official pre-season to report for, Brandt instead returned to the club with whom he broke into senior football, Bayer Leverkusen. The German spent six years at the BayArena before a €25million move to Dortmund in 2019.

Pictures uploaded to Leverkusen’s official Instagram account on Tuesday showed Brandt at the club’s training facility working alongside current Arsenal striker Kai Havertz. The pair spent three years together at Die Werkself between 2016 and 2019.

In the comments section of their own post, Leverkusen wrote: “Kai and Julian were in Leverkusen today to train individually. It was great to have you here!”

Brandt got his first taste of senior football at Leverkusen, who he joined from Wolfsburg as a youngster in 2014. The attacking midfielder played 215 times for the German side over six years, registering an impressive 42 goals and 52 assists, and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season during his final campaign at the BayArena.

He went on to enjoy an equally productive spell at Dortmund, registering 57 goals and 70 assists in 307 games and once again earning a Bundesliga Team of the Season place in 2022/23. He also won a DFB-Pokal with his most recent club and featured in a Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
