Statement released as Leeds United confirm Manchester loan move for U21s star
The young goalkeeper will return to Leeds United this summer.
Leeds United have confirmed the loan exit of Under-21s goalkeeper Darryl Ombang.
Ombang will join Northern Premier League side FC United of Manchester for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The 20-year-old had previously spent time on loan at National League North outfit Darlington, playing five times as cover for the injured Peter Jameson.
That loan spell ended in November and Ombang has been part of Scott Gardner’s U21s squad since. Overall this season, the England youth international has played 10 games for the young Whites but is set to enjoy senior football in the seventh-tier across the Pennines.
A statement from the club read: “Leeds United can confirm Academy goalkeeper Darryl Ombang will spend the rest of the season on a youth loan at FC United of Manchester. So far this term, the stopper has made 10 appearances for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side, as well as also enjoying a productive spell with National League North outfit Darlington, where he played four times.
“Ombang heads to Broadhurst Park with Mark Beesley’s team currently third in the Northern Premier League, three points adrift of top spot, with a game in hand. Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Darryl well during his time away from the club and we will be monitoring his progress closely.”
Scotland youth international Rory Mahady has been Ombang’s main competition for the goalkeeper role at U21-level. In recent weeks, former first-team starter Illan Meslier has dropped down to Gardner’s squad in a bid to get more minutes ahead of his contract expiring this summer.
