Leeds United to pay tribute to Terry Yorath and Colin Wood ahead of Fulham fixture

Leeds United will honour legend Terry Yorath and supporter Colin Wood ahead of Saturday's clash with Fulham.

Tributes will be paid to former Leeds United midfielder Terry Yorath and supporter Colin Wood ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham, the club have confirmed.

Yorath passed away on 7th January, aged 75, after a short illness. Leeds have now confirmed a minute of applause will take place ahead of Saturday’s match at Elland Road, while players will wear black armbands and the matchday programme will be dedicated to the former midfielder.

Additionally, supporters have been encouraged to join a minute of applause in the 67th minute in memory of supporter Colin Wood, who sadly passed away ahead of Leeds’ last home fixture against Manchester United on 4th January at the age of 67. Colin’s family will be in attendance for the match.

Terry Yorath’s Leeds United career

Born in Cardiff in March 1950, Yorath was an apprentice at Leeds United and signed his first professional contract in 1967 at 17 years old.

After initially struggling to establish himself in the first team, he became a regular during the 1972/73 season and went on to make 183 appearances for the club across all competitions, notching 11 goals before departing for Coventry City in 1976.

But before Yorath left Elland Road, he was part of the side that won the 1973/74 league title, while claiming runner-up medals in the European Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup and FA Cup in the middle of what is the greatest period in Leeds United history to date. Yorath was the first Welshman to play in a European Cup final, which Leeds lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in Paris in May 1975.

Yorath - the father of BBC presenter Gabby Logan - also picked up 59 senior caps for Wales, scoring twice and often donning the captain’s armband.

After retirement, Yorath embarked on a 23-year managerial career that yielded a Fourth Division play-off title with Swansea and third-place at the 1997 Arab Games with Lebanon.
