Boss takes decision on Leeds United men ahead of final June friendlies
A decision on Leeds United men has been taken ahead of June’s final international friendlies.
Wales boss Craig Bellamy has taken a decision on Leeds United men for Saturday evening’s final June friendly against Romania in Bucharest.
Leeds have four players heading to the World Cup in Brenden Aaronson (USA), Gabi Gudmundsson (Sweden), Noah Okafor (Switzerland) and Ao Tanaka (Japan) but a Whites quartet suffered heartache with Wales.
Captain Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow and Dan James were denied a place at this summer’s competition after a defeat on penalties to Bosnia Herzegovina in March’s qualifying play-off final.
Wales, though, ahead of the Euro 2028 qualifying campaign still had two June friendlies to take in, the second of which presents itself this evening as Bellamy’s side take on Romania at the Stadionul Steaua in a 6.45pm kick-off.
Ampadu, Rodon, Darlow and James were all named as part of the squad for the June friendlies and Bellamy then added a fifth Leeds player as young full-back Jayden Lienou received his first senior international call-up.
Ampadu, Rodon, Darlow and James all started Tuesday evening’s 2-2 draw at home to Ghana for which Lienou was an unused substitute in a 2-2 draw.
Four days on, Bellamy has made fresh calls on the Leeds quintet as Ampadu, Rodon and James once again start but Darlow drops to the bench as Danny Ward starts in goal.
