How to watch five Leeds United stars in action today with Wales debut possible & Ao Tanaka Japan clash

The first round of international fixtures involving Leeds United players kick off today.

The first round of international fixtures get underway today with five Leeds United stars potentially in action. More than a dozen first-team players jetted off following Sunday’s 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace with some set to play four times in three weeks.

European countries will kick off their 2026/27 Nations League campaigns with four games in their respective groups. Those outside the continent don’t have any official competition so are taking the time to play some friendlies.

Below, the YEP has all the key information on what’s happening today from a Leeds perspective.

Welsh debut chance

As has so often been the case in recent years, there is a strong cohort of Leeds stars in the Wales squad - although not as strong as it could have been. Two members of Daniel Farke’s first-team have joined up with Craig Bellamy’s group - Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James - alongside Under-21s prospect Jayden Lienou.

Harry Wilson was called up but a quad injury picked up last week means he missed out, as does Joe Rodon who remains sidelined with a serious hamstring injury he suffered against Brentford. Wales kick off their Nations League A, Group D campaign away at Portugal this evening.

Kick-off at Sporting CP’s Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon is at 7.45pm UK time this evening, with the match being shown on BBC One Wales, BBC Two, the BBC iPlayer, S4C and S4C online. It’s definitely the game for Leeds fans to keep an eye on, with a chance for 18-year-old full-back Lienou to make his international debut.

Tanaka’s Japan return

As mentioned, Japan and many other nations away from Europe don’t have competitive football to play this break but they have set up a series of friendlies. Hajime Moriyasu’s side host a trio of South American sides over the next couple of weeks, starting with Uruguay later today.

The game is due to take place at the Q&A Stadium Miyagi in Rifu, Japan with kick-off at 11.05am UK time this morning. While there will be no TV coverage, Bet365 will stream the game live for customers with a funded account or who have placed a bet in the last 24 hours.

This morning’s friendly meeting with Uruguay will be their first game since a heartbreaking World Cup last-32 exit at the hands of Brazil back in June. Tanaka was in tears after giving the ball away for a 96th-minute Gabriel Martinelli winner but has bounced back, stringing together a number of excellent recent performances for Leeds.

Stach’s Germany illusive

The fifth and final Leeds player set for international football today is Anton Stach, whose Germany side face the Netherlands in their Nations League Group B opener. Kick-off at the Johan Cruijff ArenA will be at 7.45pm UK time but there is no avenue to watch the clash live in England.

Multiple broadcasters across Europe and the wider world will be showing the game but none have UK access, meaning any West Yorkshire-based Leeds fans will have to wait for the highlights. Stach will hope to get minutes in what will be Jurgen Klopp’s first game as Germany manager.

In an unusual decision, Klopp has actually named two completely separate 22-man squads, each of which will play two of Germany’s four Nations League games. Whites midfielder Stach is in the first group, facing the Netherlands tonight and Greece early next week before leaving.
