Leeds United fans on enough points for survival, Wolves display, lifeline offer & star man disagreement
Leeds United’s fans have had their say on the weekend’s win against Wolves.
Leeds United took another big step towards Premier League survival with Saturday’s 3-0 win at home to Wolves - but what did the club’s fans think? Here is what our YEP Jury had to say including disagreement on the game’s star man, a ‘lifeline’ offered and how many more points would ‘do it’ in the quest to beat the drop.
DAVID WATKINS
Leeds United inched closer to the finishing line with a relatively comfortable win over Wolves.
Relatively, because, at 2-0 and after playing aggressively for the first half an hour, we then produced a very stodgy and unimpressive second half. It has been a theme in recent games.
Nerves may well be the issue, and that may be why good chances were again missed: six big chances were forged in the first half, but four of them went begging.
Having said that, Wolves looked a beaten side from the moment that second goal went in, that one initiated with a suicidal midfield pass that was picked up by Brenden Aaronson.
He fed a lovely ball in for Noah Okafor to finish. James Justin had acrobatically put Leeds ahead just two minutes earlier, after more chaos in the Wolves box from a set piece.
Wolves only really caused two moments of peril for Leeds, both in the second half: a glancing header that somehow Karl Darlow brilliantly saved, and a breakaway run by Rodrigo Gomez that saw the lone wolf drag wide. Thankfully, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s added time penalty gave us time to breathe at the end!
On we go to Bournemouth, where another point ought to see us to safety.
Man of the match: James Justin.
“It offered Wolves a lifeline”
KEITH INGHAM
Leeds United got the much-needed three points they required to give them back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
It wasn’t perfect, these games never are, but they did enough to get a 3-0 win over doomed Wolves.
As expected, Daniel Farke kept faith with the starting XI that performed superbly at Old Trafford. Joe Rodon returned to the bench after missing the game with Man United.
United broke the deadlock with a superb James Justin overhead kick after a corner by Ao Tanaka was only half cleared.
Minutes later it was 2-0. Brenden Aaronson’s superb ball across the area found Noah Okafor at the back stick and he buried the chance.
Leeds took their foot off the gas in the second half and it offered Wolves a lifeline.
Karl Darlow saved superbly and Adam Armstrong thought he’d got one back, but it was ruled offside.
In injury time, Willy Gnonto’s beautiful pass found Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the striker was fouled. He coolly put the ball past Dan Bentley to finish off the win.
Leeds don’t have time to rest on their laurels. A tough-looking away game awaits on the south coast on Wednesday against Bournemouth.
Man of the match: Noah Okafor.
“Should do it from here”
ANDY RHODES
Following the win at Old Trafford last week, it was imperative that Leeds United followed it up with a win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Everyone knew that three points would mark a big step on Leeds’ way to Premier League survival and, having reached 39 points with it, they now stand a good chance of staying up.
And this was an emphatic win. We wondered how Wolves would respond after their 4-0 loss at fellow strugglers West Ham last week, but this was a timid performance worthy of a side going down.
Leeds took advantage, and James Justin provided one of the moments of the season with his overhead kick to open the scoring.
Similarly, Noah Okafor scored again and built on that impressive performance on Monday night.
It was also good to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin get on the scoresheet after missing chances on Monday.
One more win should do it from here, but Leeds now have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to.

“He never stops working or finding dangerous positions for himself”
MIKE GILL
Any thoughts of a hangover from last Monday’s heroics at Manchester United were soon swept away at Elland Road.
United started on the front foot and were soon besieging the Wolves goal.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin came close on two occasions before a goalmouth scramble produced a spectacular overhead kick from James Justin.
Two minutes later, Noah Okafor doubled United’s lead, timing his run perfectly to convert Brenden Aaronson’s pass at the far post.
The scene was set for a massacre, but the goal rush never came.
Instead, Wolves eased their way back into the game and came close several times before the half-time break.
Karl Darlow made a fine one-handed save before the profligate but energetic Calvert-Lewin turned up with another goal-line clearance.
The second half continued in a similar vein before Willy Gnonto sent a killer pass to Calvert-Lewin who was upended in the penalty area.
The big striker converted the spot kick to seal the win.
Expected goals statistics may show that DCL is wasteful, but he never stops working or finding dangerous positions for himself.

“One foot in next season’s Premier League”
NEIL GREWER
Leeds started this game in a very similar manner to the game at Old Trafford – Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed an opportunity in the first minute, identical to last Monday.
But by 20 minutes, United were two goals to the good – James Justin with an overhead kick following a scramble in the area and Noah Okafor converting a fantastic Brenden Aaronson cross.
The rest of the half saw more Leeds domination, but no further goals.
The second half was completely different with Wolves improving and showing some threat.
Karl Darlow made a brilliant one-handed save following a corner which thankfully prevented a nervous end to the game.
Other than that, the only highlight in normal time was the substitution of a linesman.
Added time saw Calvert-Lewin convert a penalty – after being fouled himself – to give a convincing look to the scoreline.
All individual performances were solid and the team were professional, getting the job done.
So, Leeds ended the day on 39 points, eight points clear of Spurs and with one foot in next season’s Premier League.
A great end to a great week.
