Decision taken on Leeds United transfer target Jorgen Strand Larsen as Wolves boss confirms bid

A decision has been taken on a Leeds United transfer target.

A fresh decision has been taken on Leeds United transfer target Jorgen Strand Larsen by Wolves after a rejected bid.

Leeds are keen to add Norwegian striker Strand Larsen to their attacking ranks and followed up an initial enquiry with a formal bid this week, first reported by the Telegraph.

The YEP understands that while the first bid was not immediately accepted by Wolves, United’s interest and pursuit remains active so they have not been deterred by whatever noises came back from Molineux this week, despite boss Rob Edwards confirming a rejected bid.

The conversation is ongoing and a deal could yet be made.

Wolves reportedly want £40million for the striker who is the subject of interest from a host of other clubs including Crystal Palace amid speculation over Eagles striker Jean Phillipe Mateta’s future. Nottingham Forest and West Ham have also expressed their interest.

Wolves, improving but still bottom of the table, face Manchester City at the Etihad in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon, ahead of which boss Edwards was asked about Strand Larsen at his pre-match press conference.

Confirming that there had been a rejected bid, the Wolves boss said that Strand Larsen had trained as normal and would be part of the squad to face City.

“That's all I'm looking at at the moment”

Edwards said: “The bid came back last week or early this week. He's been great, he's trained really well.

“He'll be part of the squad tomorrow, he trained well today, so there has been no change. He's trained really, really well, and really that's all I'm looking at at the moment.

"I'm seeing a player with a focus and a really good attitude.”

The Norwegian has featured from the bench in his side’s last five Premier League games - his only start of late arriving in the FA Cup clash at home to Shrewsbury Town earlier this month in which he netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 romp.

Strand Larsen then dropped back to the bench for last weekend’s goalless draw at home to Newcastle United for which Tolu Arokodare and Hwang Hee-Chan started in the front line. The Whites target was brought on for Arokodare five minutes after the hour mark.

One week on, boss Edwards has again named Strand Larsen on his bench for Saturday’s clash at City but in addition to fellow striker option Arokodare who also sits amongst the substitutes.

As Arokodare drops out, Colombian attacker Jhon Arias comes into the XI as the only change to the Wolves side.
