Micah Richards makes Leeds United claim fans will love as Alan Shearer fires cheeky dig
The Rest is Football pundits have been discussing Leeds United's 4-1 home win against Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have paid tribute to the atmosphere Leeds United fans created during Saturday’s win against Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
Daniel Farke’s side continued their recent upturn in form on their home patch as Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit a brace and Anton Stach and Ethan Ampadu also found the net as the Whites made it four games unbeaten to move six points clear of the relegation zone.
Not for the first time this season, the Elland Road faithful played their part with an impressive show of support for Farke and his players as they roared the Whites on to a fine win against last season’s FA Cup winners. That support continued right up until the final whistle on Saturday night and continued the Whites players and coaching staff took their acclaim in the aftermath of the win.
Former Manchester City and England star Richards joked even he was unable to get a ticket for a visit to Elland Road this season and described the atmosphere as ‘up there’ amongst the best in the Premier League.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, he said: “Elland Road, when it's like that, I mentioned Sunderland atmosphere in the derby, we mentioned Liverpool before. Even Spurs, when that opened, the atmosphere was great there. Obviously, it's turned a little bit now because of the performances. But Elland Road has got to be up there.
“The fans, the fans are bonkers, you know that. You know you can't buy a ticket there, the season tickets, years you have to wait, years to even get a ticket. Well, to be honest, I don't think I could get one now, actually. The only reason I could get them before, Mancucci, who was on the board at Fiorentina, then went to Leeds, so he used to always invite me, but I've not got a link now, so.”
Fellow pundit Alan Shearer admitted his love for Elland Road - although the former Newcastle United and England striker had good reason for that admission after finding the net 21 times in 24 appearances against the Whites during his playing career.
He said: “I love Elland Road. I love Elland Road more than you love Elland Road, Micah.” When it was suggested his goalscoring exploits against Leeds were the reason behind his love for his love of the Whites famous old home, Shearer replied: “Yes, it was, yeah”.
