'There’s no deterrent' - talkSPORT trio's mixed opinions on Leeds United man against Chelsea

It has become one of the key talking points from the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Ian Poveda was clipped in the box against Chelsea - but chose not to go down and win a penalty - an act which has become a major talking point.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side took the lead through former Blues man Patrick Bamford before being pegged back by Olivier Giroud.

A Kurt Zouma header gave Frank Lampard’s side the lead before Christian Pulisic rounded off Chelsea’s victory.

But the result may have been different had Poveda decided to go down in the box, with the scores at 2-1.

Indeed, the incident has been discussed far and wide, with the latest debate occurring on talkSPORT between Laura Woods, Troy Deeney and Ally McCoist on Monday morning.

Talking on the Breakfast show, talkSPORT host Woods said: “Replays did show that Ben Chilwell made contact. He stayed on his feet, and regained his balance before shooting.”

Deeney replied: “I think this is going to get me in trouble but in that moment, after the game, you’ll be sitting in the dressing room and someone will say, ‘You didn’t fancy going down there?’

“I think diving is part and parcel of the game. There was a great example when [Conor] Coady went down last night and he wasn’t booked. There’s no deterrent not do it again.”

McCoist replied by explaining: “I always think a goalscorer’s natural reaction is to stay on his feet if he’s got a chance of scoring.”
