Losing by four goals in any game is always a kick in the teeth, but to lose to such a bitter rival by such a large margin will have really stuck in the craw for many Whites supporters.
Prior to that meeting in December, it had been quite some time since the two sides had met, with the most recent clash coming in the League Cup in 2011 – a match which the Reds won 3-0.
In fact, to find Leeds’ last win against Man United, you have to go back to the year previous, when a Jermaine Beckford strike settled a famous FA Cup tie in their favour.
But this is a rivalry that stretches back way beyond the past decade or so.
The first official meeting between Leeds and Man United came in January 1923, with the game ending in a stalemate.
In the years since, the sides have met on 108 other occasions, but who has had the better of the clashes, and how does it rank in terms of ferocity compared to some of the biggest rivalries in English football?
Paddy Power have ran the numbers, comparing win percentages from derby clashes between every Premier League club and their most fierce foes to determine which clashes truly are the most competitive.
