In Pictures: Road racing and running as IRONMAN takes over Leeds today

Endurance athletes and spectators gathered at Roundhay Park and across North Leeds today as England’s only full-distance IRONMAN event returned to the city

Athletes from across the globe pushed themselves to the limit today (August 16) as IRONMAN Leeds took over the city's roads, parklands, and waterways for a gruelling showcase of endurance.

As England’s only full-distance IRONMAN challenge, the event saw competitors take on a mammoth endurance test, finishing with a full 26.2-mile marathon run centred around Roundhay Park.

Supporters lined the streets in Roundhay, Shadwell, Thorner, Harewood, and surrounding communities to cheer on participants as they tackled the punishing course - with live music, local cheer points, and a vibrant atmosphere powering competitors through to the red-carpet finish line near the Roundhay Park cricket pavilion.

Here are five key moments captured during today's road racing and running action across Leeds from Yorkshire Evening Post photographer, Steve Riding.
