Charlie Manby beaten at World Darts Championship as Gian van Veen reaches last-8
Yorkshire marksman Charlie Manby’s impressive run at his debut World Darts Championship ended in the fourth round when he was beaten 4-1 in sets by Dutch ace Gian van Veen tonight (Tuesday).
Manby had the consolation of £60,000 prize money following his wins over Cameron Menzies, Adam Sevada and Ricky Evans, but the 10th seed proved too strong in the last-16 clash.
Manby, who lives between Huddersfield and Wakefield, won the second set on his own throw and two of the sets he lost went to a deciding leg as the Yorkshireman averaged 94.24 with every three darts thrown and hit eight of his 17 attempts at a double.

The 20-year-old bricklayer qualified for the event at Alexandra Palace, in north London, through the development tour and will attempt to win a professional tour card at the Professional Darts Corporation’s Q School in the new year.
Van Veen is the reigning European and beat Doncaster’s Beau Greaves to retain his World Youth championship.
He averaged an impressive 98.48, hitting 13 of his 27 attempts at the outer ring and landing nine 180 scores, to Manby’s one.
