Leeds Knights youngsters rewarded for progress with Great Britain call-up

LEEDS KNIGHTS will have to make do without three of their up-and-coming youngsters early in the New Year after their selection for the Great Britain Under-20s squad.

Defenceman Jonaas Bennett (pictured) and forwards Edgars Vengis and Daragh Spawforth will be part of Sean Easton’s roster for the IIHF Under-20s World Championships in Bucharets which run from January 4-10.

It means the teenagers will be unavailable to head coach Ryan Aldridge for the NIHL National home games against Basingstoke Bison and Peterborough Phantoms.

Spawforth, from Wakefield, has made 16 appearances for the Knights this season, scoring three goals.

Vengis has 19 appearances and seven points, including three goals, in 19 appearances, while Bennett – at 16 the youngest member of the GB Under-20 roster – has two assists in 20 games.
