Local cricket round-up: Traditional big-hitters Hanging Heaton humbled by Morley

Hanging Heaton are used to racking up high scores in the Bradford League but they were humbled by Morley, whose overseas player Kavindu Kulasekara had an inspired debut.

The Sri Lankan spinner took 8-34 as Hanging Heaton were sent packing for just 99, which was not quite enough as Morley had earlier made 102, which seemed fanciful when they were 12-5. It all added up to Morley’s first win and Hanging Heaton’s first defeat.

One team who were in the runs were Pudsey St Lawrence, with Mark Robertshaw leading from the front in their 360-5.

The opener made 156, including three sixes and 22 fours at Tofts Road as Wrenthorpe’s bowlers soaked up some punishment.

Archie Scott (46) helped Robertshaw add 100, and Chris Marsden (40) and Harry Cullingford (42) also played their part.

Wrenthorpe were then dismissed for 118 to complete a miserable afternoon, with spinner Scott taking 4-49. Alex Cree again showed that he is a name to watch as the 16-year-old Methley opener scored 116 – a second successive century – in a 207-run pummelling of Batley.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, New Farnley made it three wins from three after cruising to an eight-wicket victory over Farsley, Townville were eight-wicket winners over Bradford and Bingley as Conor Harvey took 7-54 and Woodlands defeated Cleckheaton by 109 runs.

Saltaire, five years after leaving the Bradford League, are top of Division One in the Aire-Wharfe League.

They made 315-5 at Roberts Park against Rawdon, with Sajad Ali hitting 88 not out off just 44 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes.

Rawdon were then dismissed for 218.

Elsewhere, Beckwithshaw were 136-run winners over Olicanian, Otley got back to winning ways with a seven-run success over Addingham, Bilton defeated North Leeds by 13 runs, Ilkley eased to a 111-run triumph over Burley-in-Wharfedale and Collingham and Linton crushed Horsforth by 223 runs.
