Yorkshire ace Charlie Manby 'buzzing' after latest win at World Darts Championship

Yorkshire rising star Charlie Manby cruised into the last 32 of the World Darts Championship with a dominant 3-0 victory over out-classed American Adam Sevada at Alexandra Palace in north London tonight (Monday).

The victory guaranteed Manby, who works as a bricklayer, at least £32,000 in prize money from his first World Championship and he will face ‘Rapid’ Ricky Evans in round three after Christmas. Manby, 20, is Yorkshire’s sole survivor after Doncaster’s Beau Greaves was beaten in the opening round and Joe Cullen, of Bradford, was knocked out in his second match.

“I’m absolutely buzzing,” Manby, known as ‘Champagne’, said in his Sky Sports interview after the match. “It wasn’t the greatest, not my A-game, but it was good enough. I just want to play my own game and I think I did that pretty well, [but] I need to play my A-game against Ricky.”

Manby, who lives between Huddersfield and Wakefield, hit two maximum 180s and averaged 90.88 with every three darts thrown. He broke his opponent’s throw twice to win the opening set 3-0 and Sevada didn’t have a dart at a double until the fifth leg of the match.

The second set was also a whitewash in Manby’s favour, but the Arizonian broke his duck in the opening leg of the third. With Sevada waiting on a one-dart finish, Manby took out 114 to level the set and then broke in the next leg to go one away from victory, which he achieved on double-eight.
