2 top-20 players back in contention as Leeds Rhinos 21-man squad named to face Toulouse Olympique

Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur has made two changes to his initial squad for Friday’s visit of Toulouse Olympique, with a pair of top-20 players coming back into contention.

Winger Maika Sivo (arm) and forward Ben Littlewood (hamstring) are both ruled out after picking up injuries in last Sunday’s win against Bradford Bulls. Their places in the 21 are taken by second-rower Chris Hankinson, who can also play in the outside-backs and prop Jeremiah Mata’utia.

Hankinson is set to return from a one-game concussion layoff. Mata’utia joined Rhinos in pre-season from North Queensland Cowboys, but has made only two substitute appearances, the most recent being at home to Castleford Tigers in March. He has featured for the reserves since returning from a loan spell with Hull FC and Rhinos say they will not take up an option to extend his contract into 2027.

Riley Lumb, Ned McCormack, Fergie McCormack and Zak Lloyd all retain their squad place after not featuring against Bulls. Lloyd was 18th man for that game and has been awarded the number 30 jersey.

Toulouse are without star full-back Olly Ashall-Bott after he sustained a hamstring injury in last Saturday’s loss to Catalans Dragons. Others to drop out of the 21 are Thomas Lacans (concussion), Brendan Hands (ankle), James Roumanos (broken nose) and Louis Grossemy (concussion). They are replaced by Joe Bretherton, Victor Collin, Paul Marcon, Baptiste Rodriguez and Cesar Rouge.

Rhinos’ 21 is: Lachie Miller, Harry Newman, Brodie Croft, Jake Connor, Mikolaj Oledzki, Jarrod O’Connor, Tom Holroyd, Kallum Watkins, James McDonnell, Chris Hankinson, Cooper Jenkins, Cameron Smith, Jeremiah Mata’utia, Presley Cassell, Alfie Edgell, Riley Lumb, Ned McCormack, Tom Nicholson-Watton, Fergie McCormack, Zak Lloyd, Jack Bird,

Toulouse’s squad is: Paul Ulberg, Paul Marcon, Benjamin Laguerre, Jake Shorrocks, Lambert Belmas, Mathieu Jussaume, Anthony Marion, Joe Cator, Joe Bretherton, Rob Butler, Baptiste Rodriguez, Romeo Tropis, Ajahni Wallace, Henry O'Kane, Luke Polselli, Hugo Garrigues, Cesar Rouge, Tiaki Chan, Ethan Quai-Ward, John Toleafoa, Victor Collin.
