'Big impact': Wakefield Trinity coach Daryl Powell reacts to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck speculation
Coach Daryl Powell has played a straight bat to speculation Wakefield Trinity are set to sign dual-code superstar Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Tuivasa-Sheck has been capped 20 times by New Zealand and made five appearances for Samoa in rugby league, as well as playing international union for the All Blacks. The full-back, winger or centre has 235 NRL games under his belt, having begun his career at Sydney Roosters and been with New Zealand Warriors since 2016.
Love Rugby League have reported the 32-year-old will join Trinity when his Warriors contract expires at the end of this season. But speaking at his preview press conference today (Thursday) ahead of tomorrow’s trip to York Knights, Powell said: “There’s always rumours about. There’s nothing I can say at the moment.

“We have got a game tomorrow and I am focused on that. We are an ambitious club, you can see that with the signings we’ve made and if Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s on the market you are probably going to be interested. But I haven’t got anything to say other than he is an unbelievable player.”
Powell did admit Tuivasa-Sheck would be a hit in Betfred Super League if he made the move. “Without a shadow of a doubt,” he said. “He is a dual international, played for the iconic All Blacks; in that way, whoever was able to sign him, being able to bring a player of that magnitude to Super League is a big thing. He is still playing every week in the NRL and looking pretty sharp so I think he’d have a big impact in this comp.”
