Castleford Tigers boost as ex-Leeds Rhinos man Ashton Golding signs new contract

Jamaican international Ashton Golding has spoken of his “relief” after signing a new contract with Castleford Tigers.

The versatile former Leeds Rhinos man joined Tigers in February on a one-year deal and has now agreed terms until the end of 2028. Golding, 30, scored three tries in 12 appearances following his move from Huddersfield Giants, but suffered a season-ending hamstring injury during a defeat at Wakefield Trinity in July.

He admitted: “There’s a little bit of relief actually. It’s good to get this over the line and it kind of works for myself and for Castleford, so relief and happiness are the overriding emotions at the moment. A year ago I left Huddersfield with no contract and to get another three years in Super League is a blessing, so I’m definitely not going to take that for granted.”

Golding’s extension is Tigers’ first major piece of business since Paul Rowley was appointed coach last week. The player reflected: “I’ve been playing Super League nearly 13 years now, so I’ve played many games against him.

“I like the way he coaches; I like the style and it’s like a real ‘ride or die’ kind of environment he creates. It’s the world against that team he coaches, so I don’t mind that. His track record has proven he brings the best out of players so I’m excited to get to work and get my fitness back.”

Tigers director of rugby Chris Chester was “absolutely delighted” with Golding’s contract extension. He said: “Ashton brings a huge amount to the group, both on and off the field and his experience, quality and attitude make him a valuable part of what we’re building. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to make a big impact over the next two years.”
