'Disappointed & pleased': Hunslet RLFC announce exit of ex-Leeds Rhinos player but reveal financial profit
Hunslet RLFC have confirmed the departure of a former Leeds Rhinos player, but announced a profit for the 2025 financial year.
Hooker Bailey Aldridge, who played in last Sunday’s 29-18 loss at Salford, is the second pre-season signing to leave Hunslet this year after winger Matty Dawson-Jones retired just two games into the campaign. A statement from the Betfred Championship outfit said: “The club is disappointed to announce that we have agreed to release Bailey Aldridge.
“Bailey has an opportunity in Australia he wishes to take up. Everyone at the club would like to thank Bailey for his efforts this season and wish him all the best down under.”
Aldridge came through Rhinos’ academy system and was a member of their under-18s Grand Final-winning side in 2022. He moved to Oldham ahead of the 2024 season and joined Hunslet on a 12-month deal last November.

In better news, the Parksiders today (Tuesday) said they are “pleased to announce a year-end profit of £62,000 for the 2025 financial year, reflecting continued progress towards long-term financial sustainability.”
A statement added: “While results on the pitch did not meet expectations, off-field business performance exceeded them. The positive financial outcome has been driven by a combination of increased revenues, controlled expenditure and higher attendances following [the club’s] promotion to the Championship. The board has confirmed that the full surplus has been reinvested directly into the playing squad for the 2026 season, reinforcing the club’s commitment to achieving future success.”
Chief executive Neil Hampshire hailed the financial results as “an important step forward for the club”. He said: “Increased crowds show supporters continue to believe in what we’re building and careful financial management has allowed us to finish the year in a strong position.
“We are grateful to our supporters for their patience in what was a difficult season and to all our sponsors, who continue to back us. Obviously, we all wanted more success on the field in 2025, but sustainable growth and the long-term viability of the club remains our absolute priority.
“As good as these results are in the current climate, we are not getting carried away. We have a good platform, but continue to manage a tightly controlled budget.
“I’d encourage supporters to back the club’s fundraising initiatives and would welcome contact from any potential sponsors who are interested in joining the Hunslet family. Together we can make this great club a highly competitive Championship outfit and build a lasting legacy for the future.”
