Disciplinary news: Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers men charged by match review panel

Two Wakefield Trinity players and one from Castleford Tigers have been charged by the RFL’s match review panel.

Five players from four different clubs received penalty points following the penultimate round of Betfred Super League matches. Trinity forwards Isaiah Vagana and Mike McMeeken both fell foul of the panel over incidents in Saturday’s 25-18 home win against Warrington Wolves.

Vagana, who scored a brace of tries on his return from a shoulder injury, received three penalty points for grade B head contact. That took his total in the past 12 months to four points and he was fined, but avoided a suspension.

McMeeken was handed three points - his first of the year - for grade B dangerous contact and was also fined. Both players are available for Friday’s visit to Leigh Leopards.

Tigers’ on-loan Leigh prop Lazarus Vaalepu was fined after being handed three penalty points for grade B late contact on a passer during last Thursday’s 32-22 defeat at Bradford Bulls. He had a previously clean record this season.

Huddersfield Giants’ George King received one penalty point for grade A late contact on a passer against Hull KR and faces no further action. Adam Cook, of Leigh, was charged with grade B ‘other contrary behaviour’ in the win over St Helens. The three penalty points were his first in the past 12 months and he was fined.

Swinton Lions’ Jordan Brown was banned for three games after being given 18 penalty points for grade E punching in last weekend’s Championship fixture against London Broncos. London’s Will Jones will face a disciplinary hearing after being accused of grade F punching in the same match.

Leeds Rhinos’ Jeremiah Mata’utia has not been charged after being placed on report in the recent reserves play-off semi-final loss to Warrington Wolves.
