Ex-Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Trinity and Hull FC star Josh Griffin announces retirement after injury blow
Veteran former Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity forward Josh Griffin has announced his retirement following a long-term injury blow.
Griffin suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle playing for York Knights against Toulouse Olympique in April and the 36-year-old has now decided to hang up his boots. Griffin made his professional debut for Wakefield 18 years ago and had three spells with Trinity.
A centre or second-rower, he also played for Huddersfield Giants, Batley Bulldogs, Tigers, Salford Red Devils and Hull FC, where he was a Challenge Cup winner in 2017 - as well as having a stint in rugby union with Leeds Tykes. He joined York from Wakefield in pre-season.

Announcing his decision on social media, Griffin said: “After 19 seasons, it’s time for me to retire from rugby league with immediate effect. It’s not the way I wanted it to finish, but due to my latest injury, I believe it’s the right time.”
He added: “The game has given me lifelong memories, friendships, experiences and opportunities that I’ll always treasure. I’d like to thank every club I’ve had the privilege to represent.
“It has been an honour to wear each and every jersey and be part of so many special teams and communities. To my teammates, coaches, staff and supporters, thank you for being part of the journey and for the memories.
“Most importantly, thank you to my family. Your constant support, sacrifices and belief in me made it all possible. Through every high and low, you were always there and I’m forever grateful.”
