Ex-Leeds Rhinos back Ashton Golding to miss start of new Super League season - Huddersfield Giants No 1 injures shoulder in training

Huddersfield Giants' former Leeds Rhinos full-back Ashton Golding has suffered a shoulder injury in pre-season training and will miss the start of the new campaign.

Golding, who joined Giants from Leeds at the end of 2019, is set to undergo surgery this week and could be sidelined until late-May.

Giants coach Ian Watson said: “While it’s obviously disappointing Ashton has sustained this injury, we expect him to make a full recovery and return stronger than ever.”

He added: “We expect to see Ashton return to the field in late-May, but in the meantime we will be working to make sure he improves himself and hits the ground running when he returns to Betfred Super League action.

“Ashton is a strong individual who has come back better from injury before. We back him to do the same in recovering this time with the help of our medical department.”

Huddersfield’s new Australian signing Jack Cogger is due to join the squad this week after completing his quarantine on arrival in the UK.

Half-back Aidan Sezer will return from Australia this week, but must quarantine before rejoining the squad.

Samoan centre Ricky Leutele, who finished last season at Melbourne Storm after his previous club Toronto Wolfpack dropped out of Super League, has received visa clearance and is expected to arrive next week.
