Ex-Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors star lands surprise first coaching role

Former Leeds Rhinos treble-winner Brad Singleton has landed his first coaching appointment just two months after leaving Castleford Tigers.

Singleton is currently playing for hometown club Barrow Raiders, but will hang up his boots at the end of this season to take charge of their Betfred Championship rivals Workington Town. Singleton made 178 appearances for Rhinos from 2011-2019, winning Grand Finals in 2015 and 2017 and the Challenge Cup 11 years ago.

After leaving Leeds he had spells with Toronto Wolfpack, Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils before joining Tigers in March, 2025. He had a testimonial for services to the game earlier this year, but was released by Castleford in May after featuring only once in Super League this term.

He told Town’s social media: “I’m still currently playing for Barrow and proudly doing that. I want to finish that right, but it was ready for me to think what’s next. I could probably have squeezed another year out [as a player], but I think what excites me more is coaching.

“Workington have been very proactive, they have got in touch, it is a great position to be in and I’m looking forward to it.”

Singleton will replace current team boss Jonty Gorley who is moving into a new role as Town’s head of rugby. “His experience will help me,” Singleton added. “This is my first gig and I think it will be a great partnership.

“The bigger picture is Cumbrian rugby league. We need three strong Cumbrian sides banging on that door. Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, we want one - or even all three of them - to be in Super League.”
