Ex-Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers & Wakefield Trinity man joins West Yorkshire Championship club
Former Super League winger Derrell Olpherts has joined his sixth West Yorkshire club.
The 34-year-old will spend 2026 with Betfred Championship outfit Batley Bulldogs after scoring 18 tries in 26 appearances for Featherstone Rovers last year. He also played in the second tier for Wakefield Trinity during their 2024 promotion-winning campaign when he crossed 27 times during 28 games in all competitions.
Born in Wakefield, Olpherts had spells with Dewsbury Rams, Hemel Stages, Newcastle Thunder and Salford Red Devils before joining Castleford Tigers in 2020. After 65 appearances, producing 36 tries, he moved to Leeds Rhinos ahead of the 2023 season.

Olpherts played only 14 first team games in blue and amber, touching down four times and was released midway through his two-year contract in order to join Wakefield. He was left without a club when Rovers were excluded from this year’s Championship after going into administration.
