Ex-Leeds Rhinos star leaves coaching role with Castleford Tigers

A second former Leeds Rhinos star has departed Castleford Tigers in successive days.

Tigers today confirmed Brett Delaney, 40, has left his role as assistant-coach. His former Rhinos teammate Brad Singleton’s exit from the playing staff was announced yesterday (Tuesday).

A brief club statement said: “We would like to thank Brett for his efforts over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future. Chris Chester [director of rugby] will work closely with [coach] Ryan Carr to review the coaching department before making an appointment for the 2027 season.”

Australian Delaney played for Leeds from 2010-2018, winning three Grand Finals, before a brief spell at Featherstone Rovers. After retiring because of injury, he was on the coaching staff at York Knights and Hull KR and moved to Tigers when Danny McGuire was appointed team boss ahead of last season.
