Ex-Wakefield Trinity, Hull KR & Salford Red Devils Super League prop makes Championship move

A former Wakefield Trinity forward has moved into the Championship just a week before the new season kicks off.

Birmingham-based Midlands Hurricanes have signed Isaac Shaw, 23, on a deal until the end of 2027. Shaw made six substitute appearances for Trinity across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, either side of a spell in France with Villeneuve Leopards.

His top-flight experience also includes one game for Hull KR in 2023 and three with Salford Red Devils last year, all as a replacement. He featured another six times off the bench during Trinity’s Betfred Championship-winning campaign two years ago, has also turned out for Hunslet on dual-registration and had loan stints at Sheffield Eagles and Batley Bulldogs, where he made half a dozen appearances last season.

Of his move to Midlands, Shaw said: “I’m excited to be part of the club and the direction it’s going. I can’t wait to get in and meet the lads, but most importantly get to work and prove myself to the coaches and fans as the club faces a new test in the Championship.”

Hurricanes coach Mark Dunning added: “Isaac is a big, direct middle who will add and contribute nicely to the pack we currently have. We were made aware of his availability during the off-season and I was impressed by his outlook on the game.

“He has been in good systems and gained valuable experience at both Super League and Championship level over the last few years, which will stand him in good stead as he looks to work his way into our team and establish himself over the next two years.”
