Forward released by Wakefield Trinity finds new club: Thomas Doyle could make debut v Leeds Rhinos
Former Wakefield Trinity hooker Thomas Doyle has signed for York Knights and could make his debut against Leeds Rhinos on Sunday.
The 27-year-old played 34 times for Trinity after joining them from Keighley Cougars ahead of the 2024 season. Following two injury-hit campaigns he was released by Wakefield last week in order to find a new club.
His York contract runs until the end of 2027 and he is available for Sunday’s visit of Rhinos. Doyle, whose only Betfred Super League rugby so far this year was two appearances on loan with Bradford Bulls, said: “I’m buzzing to be joining York for the final stretch of the Super League season.

“My main focus now is to hit the ground running, give absolutely everything to the club and finish the year as strongly as possible. There is clearly a great group of lads here who are hungry to push themselves and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
For York boss Mark Applegarth, coaching Doyle is a case of better late than never. “I’m really glad Doyley has signed and I’m looking forward to working with him,” he said. “I signed him for Wakefield and never actually got a chance to work with him. He’s a tough, no-nonsense player that’s hungry to improve."
