'Gutted' Leeds Rhinos coach Lois Forsell admits 'not good enough' after Women's Super League semi-final loss
Coach Lois Forsell was left frustrated and disappointed after Leeds Rhinos women’s season ended with a fifth successive defeat.
York Valkyrie won 12-0 at AMT Headingley in the Betfred Women’s Super League semi-final to secure a place in next Sunday’s title decider away to Wigan Warriors. Forsell was “obviously gutted with the result”, but admitted Leeds - who finished second in the table - didn’t play well enough to keep their season alive.
She said: “You go back in the changing rooms and you can see the girls are gutted. There’s no hiding that they obviously had a real big desire to go on to win, but we just didn’t manage the game plan well enough and we didn’t take our opportunities. Compound that with the amount of time we threw the ball away and it’s not going to be good enough in a semi-final.”

York’s first try apart, the coach felt Leeds defended well, but she added: “Our completion was good in the first half, 84 per cent, but our set ends were poor and our execution and skill wasn’t good enough in terms of the errors we made.”
Though Rhinos got over York’s line twice in the second half, both touchdowns were ruled out by video referee James Vella after being awarded on field. York had a score disallowed in similar fashion and Forsell had no complaints.
“I don’t think they did anything wrong tonight,” she said. “I don’t think we were harshly done by with any of the decisions from the video ref.”
