Hull FC forward joins Championship club on loan

Hunslet RLFC have made two loan signings ahead of Sunday’s derby at Dewsbury Rams.

Prop Matty Laidlaw, who has made six Betfred Super League appearances for Hull FC this season, is back at the Parksiders on a one-week arrangement after playing once for them away at Widnes Vikings in March. The 22-year-old is joined at South Leeds Stadium by Sheffield Eagles pack man Blake Broadbent on a deal until the end of the current campaign.

Both players have been named in Hunslet’s initial squad for the Championship fixture at Dewsbury. Coach Kyle Trout said: “We have a strong squad out. Matty has been good for us this year and Blake has a point to prove on loan from Sheffield. Jayden Hatton is back to full fitness and other than Billy Jowitt and Keelan Foster we are probably full strength.”

Hunslet are coming off the back of a two-point loss to Whitehaven and Trout added: “The lads realise if they want to get anything from what they have put in this year, now’s the time to do it. We need a response from last week and to treat each of the four remaining games like cup finals.

“We lost the opening game to Dewsbury, so that should be motivation enough. They played mid-week at Keighley and won so we are aware of their threats, but on our day we can beat anybody - we just need those one or two players not nailing their roles to be on it.”
