In-form star ruled out as Castleford Tigers squad named to face Warrington Wolves

Castleford Tigers coach Ryan Carr has made two changes to his initial 21-man squad ahead of Saturday’s game at Warrington Wolves.

Centre Krystian Mapapalangi, who has been a stand-out performer for Tigers this year, drops out after failing a head injury assessment during last weekend’s Betfred Challenge Cup loss to St Helens. Saints’ Kyle Feldt was sin-binned for the challenge on Mapapalangi and subsequently handed a three-match ban.

Mapapalangi’s place in the 21 is taken by half-back Jenson Windley. Pre-season signing Aidan Doolan - who can play hooker, half-back or loose-forward - comes in for Chris Atkin following his move to Bradford Bulls this week.

Winger Matty Ashton could make his first appearance for Warrington since tearing an anterior cruciate ligament last May, but they are without prop Toafofoa Sipley who suffered a knee/calf muscle injury during last Saturday’s Challenge Cup win against Goole Vikings.

Marc Sneyd, Luke Yates, Sam Stone, Ben Currie and Liam Byrne also return to Warrington’s squad, with Jake Thewlis, Ewan Smith, James Bentley, Leon Hayes and Ben Hartill being the others to drop out.

Tigers’ 21 is: Semi Valemei, Zac Cini, Darnell McIntosh, Mikaele Ravalawa, Daejarn Asi, Tom Weaver, Renouf Atoni, Liam Hood, George Lawler, Jordan Lane, Joe Stimson, Brock Greacen, Jack Ashworth, Joe Westerman, Aidan Doolan, Jason Qareqare, Jenson Windley, Sam Hall, Jimmy Beckett, Ashton Golding, George Hirst.

Warrington’s initial squad is: Josh Thewlis, Toby King, Albert Hopoate, Matty Ashton, George Williams, Marc Sneyd, Luke Yates, Danny Walker, James Harrison, Sam Stone, Ben Currie, Sam Powell, Liam Byrne, Jordy Crowther, Ewan Irwin, Luke Thomas, Joe Philbin, Max Wood, Josh Smith, Kelepi Tanginoa, Lachlan Webster.
