Leeds Rhinos boss upset with defence, says 'we must care more' after 56-22 win at Huddersfield Giants

Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur was less than delighted after a 56-22 win at Huddersfield Giants lifted his side top of Super League.

Coach Brad Arthur was far from delighted after a 56-22 win at Huddersfield Giants lifted his side top of the table.

Rhinos ran in 10 tries, four of them scored by Brodie Croft, but Arthur was more concerned about the points his team conceded. Speaking after his 50th game in charge, Arthur said: “We need to care more about our defence, it’s not good enough. The boys are a bit flat in sheds on the back of that defensive performance.”

The coach reflected: “For the majority it was good, but we just lack a bit of concentration and go to sleep at times. It has got to be more important to us. The 56 was good, I am happy to support and back how we want to play, but when something doesn’t quite go our way and we turn the ball over not how we want to, we’ve got to defend it - we’ve got to do both sides of it.

“We kicked out on the full and in the first set they scored straight away. We need to be more resilient on our line and more urgent, with more desperation. We just need to care more about our defence.”

On a more positive note, Arthur added: “Nothing’s ever going to be perfect and it keeps us grounded a bit, which is good. I don’t know if we’ll touch the footy much this week, we will be doing a lot of defence.

“Overall, it’s a good performance. They have been playing well and to score 56 points against anyone is hard to do. We’ve got a bit of confidence with the ball at the moment.”
