Leeds Rhinos concern for Danny Levi after big win at St Helens sets up shield decider v Wigan Warriors
Worry over Danny Levi took some of the gloss off Leeds Rhinos’ outstanding 34-6 win at St Helens.
The result means Betfred Super League’s top two of Rhinos and Wigan Warriors will go into next Saturday’s penultimate round clash at AMT Headingley on level points. Rhinos ran in six tries to complete their first home and away double over Saints since 2015 and it was their biggest margin of victory there in the summer era.
But Levi’s return from the neck injury he suffered against Castleford five weeks ago lasted just 13 minutes after he came on off the substitutes’ bench midway through the second half. The Australian hooker was clearly upset as he left the field and coach Brad Arthur admitted that was a concern.

“I am not a doctor so I don’t want to comment too much,” the coach said in his post-match press conference. “He just felt he wasn’t strong enough so we’ll have to wait and see. He’ll go back and have some scans and we’ll see where he’s at.”
Arthur added: “He just felt like as the game wore on he lost his strength. Everyone’s pretty upset for him; we are more worried about him as a bloke than whether he can play or not, but I don’t want to be jumping the gun and saying too much too early.”
Of Leeds’ performance, Arthur said: “I thought our starts to both halves were pretty good. We talked about being aggressive and lifting the intensity level and I thought we did that and did it with good control.
“I thought we had a few tough penalties. We are one of the best disciplined teams in the comp and we had some crowd penalties, but we managed to stay composed and defend them so that was a good test for us.”
