Leeds Rhinos give trial to rugby union youngster: Pocklington School pupil trains with academy squad
Leeds Rhinos academy are giving a trial to a rugby union player from the private Pocklington School in East Yorkshire.
Theo Roberts, an upper sixth form student, was spotted by Rhinos while playing rugby union in the Rosslyn Park Sevens two months ago. He was invited to train with Rhinos’ academy and was 18th man for their recent win against Huddersfield Giants, but has yet to play a game.
A spokesperson for Pocklington School said: “We want to wish Theo the very best of luck as he heads into a trial with Leeds Rhinos. A new code and a new challenge - exciting times ahead. Good luck Theo and keep working hard.”

Rhinos have been on the lookout for promising talent in the 15-a-side game. Current Leeds players recruited from the other code include first team centre Ned McCormack - who attended Woodhouse Grove School and was an England rugby union international at under-18 level - and highly-rated outside-back Oscar Brown. He played for Yorkshire Academy, Harrogate Rugby Union Club and Harrogate Grammar School and joined Leeds after a successful trial.
Former Yorkshire county cricket captain David Byas is director of sport at Pocklington School, which will hold an open morning on Thursday, June 4.
