Leeds Rhinos hit by new injury concern as Maika Sivo in doubt for Super League semi-final v Warrington Wolves
Leeds Rhinos have been rocked by an injury concern surrounding another key player ahead of Friday’s semi-final against Warrington Wolves.
Full-back Lachie Miller (hamstring), centre/full-back Ash Handley (back) and centre Jack Bird (hamstring) have already been ruled out of the Betfred Super League qualifying play-off. And now Rhinos have a major doubt over the top-flight’s leading try scorer Maika Sivo.
Sivo picked up a shoulder problem during Rhinos’ final pre-match training session yesterday (Wednesday). He is rated as 50-50 to play on Friday.

The Fijian international made his return from a fractured arm in Rhinos’ previous match, against Hull FC two weeks ago. Sivo has 31 tries to his name in all competitions this year, including two hat-tricks against Warrington and is a member of the Super League Dream Team. A decision on his involvement will be made when he arrives at AMT Headingley two hours before the 8pm kick-off.
If Sivo doesn’t make it, Leeds will be without four of their six front-line outside-backs, as well as back-ups Alfie Edgell and Max Simpson. Sivo was included when Rhinos’ 21-man squad was named at noon yesterday, before the players trained.
Winger Riley Lumb is also in the initial group and both he and Wakefield Trinity-bound Ned McCormack, who is also a centre option, could replace Sivo if necessary. Lumb has scored 18 tries in 27 games for Leeds since his debut two years ago.
He has touched down five times in as many appearances this term, including a hat-trick in his most recent match, away to York Knights last month.
