Leeds Rhinos news: highly-rated prospect makes loan move to Championship neighbours

One of Leeds Rhinos’ most promising youngsters has joined neighbours Hunslet RLFC on loan.

The deal is initially for one week, but Hunslet have an option to extend. The Parksiders’ director of rugby Keith Senior, who was a four-time Super League winner with Leeds, revealed Lloyd comes highly recommended by Rhinos’ reserves boss and transition coach Chev Walker.

He said: “Zak joins us off a recommendation through my former teammate Chev. He trained with us last night [Wednesday] and fitted in straight away, taking control of the plays and showed some good signs. He is athletic, a good size and a real handful. We are looking forward to seeing how he goes.”

Lloyd doesn’t have a Rhinos squad number, but trains full-time with the first team. He was a member of Leeds’ Grand Final-winning reserves side last year, also played regularly for the under-18s and was twicean unused member of the 21-man squad for Super League games. His brother Dan Lloyd joined Hunslet’s Championship rivals Rochdale Hornets in pre-season.
