Leeds Rhinos news: 'remarkable journey' continues as young prospect signs long-term contract extension
One of Leeds Rhinos’ brightest young pack talents has signed a long-term contract extension.
Back-rower Ben Littlewood’s latest deal will keep him at AMT Headingley until the end of 2029. The highly-rated 21-year-old had a year remaining on his previous arrangement. It has been a busy 24 hours for the Leeds-born forward who made his first start for Rhinos in yesterday’s (Sunday) 42-12 home win against Bradford Bulls, picked up a hamstring injury which could keep him out of action for several weeks and was today issued with two charges by the RFL match review panel.
Yesterday’s game was Littlewood’s sixth for Leeds at first team level and he had a spell on loan with York Knights earlier this season, as well as making one appearance for Salford red devils in 2025. He said: “I’m really pleased to have signed this extension and to know I’ll be staying at the Rhinos until at least 2029.
“I’ve always been grateful for the coaches and everyone who has helped me along the way. Coming from rugby union, then playing at Lock Lane and getting the opportunity to come into the Rhinos system, it has been a massive journey for me.

“There have been some great moments and some setbacks as well, but I’ve just tried to keep learning and keep improving. I’m really grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Littlewood also featured for Oulton Raiders before joining the Rhinos’ pathway in 2022. Coach Brad Arthur said: “Ben has a great attitude and willingness to learn. We had no hesitation to bring him into the team this week when Chris Hankinson was injured.
“Before he picked up an injury in the game, I thought he was going great and I am sure he will be pushing again before the end of the season for selection. Every level he has gone up, he has shown he listens, takes things on board and is able to put what he learns into his performances. He has had setbacks, but he has stayed patient and worked hard. He is on the right path.”

Rhinos sporting director Ian Blease added: “Ben’s journey in such a short space of time has been remarkable. He came into the club from a different code and had to learn the game, but we could quickly see that there was a real player and a real prospect there. Securing his future is another important step in our commitment to developing young talent and building a team capable of challenging at the highest level.”
