Leeds Rhinos news: rivals Hull FC in talks to sign forward Ethan O'Neill
Rivals Hull FC are keen to sign Leeds Rhinos forward Ethan O’Neill on a permanent deal.
O’Neill has played five games on loan for Hull and is set to feature for them away to York Knights tomorrow (Thursday) after returning briefly to Leeds for treatment on a hamstring injury. The Sydney-born second-rower joined Rhinos from Leigh Leopards in pre-season on a three-year contract, but has been unable to secure a regular place in their side and the most recent of his four appearances was against Castleford Tigers in March.
Hull’s interim coach Andy Last confirmed talks involving the clubs, O’Neill and his agent have taken place. He said: “He’d be a good fit for us because he’s a non-quota player, he’s versatile, he can play left-side back-row, right-side back-row and centre as well, so it's certainly something we’ll be exploring.”

Hull could also make a move for prop Jeremiah Mata’utia after Rhinos confirmed they won’t be taking up an option in his contract for 2027. The giant Australian has played nine games on loan for Hull, but is now back at Leeds. “I’m sure Richie [Myler, FC’s chief executive] is on that,” Last said.
