Leeds Rhinos women aim to boost Grand Final hopes with crucial win at St Helens
A ‘different vibe’ has been at the heart of Leeds Rhinos women’s impressive form so far this year, according to forward Kaiya Glynn.
Rhinos kicked off their Betfred Super-4s campaign with a 38-16 home win against York Valkyrie last week and visit St Helens tomorrow (Saturday) looking to repeat a 28-12 victory there in June. Glynn will return from injury for Rhinos and insisted: “Everyone’s pretty pumped.
“There are some things we are definitely focusing on in terms of improvements that can be made from last week. There are areas where Lois [Forsell, Rhinos’ coach] would want us to be better and we’ll take that into this week, but I think generally in the camp everyone’s pretty up and ready for it and excited to go.”
Rhinos had a tough campaign last year when they finished fourth in the league and failed to reach either final, but they have improved week on week since being beaten 30-14 by Saints in a Challenge Cup semi-final three months ago. “This year there is a different vibe,” Glynn said.

“Everyone’s getting on and looking to push each other to be better. At the start of the season we were still learning about each other and now we are getting into collectively good form and we are gelling really well on and off the field. It is a nice environment to be in.”
Assessing what has changed since the Cup loss to Saints, Glynn added: “It’s not the expectations from Lois and the coaching team, they were just as high then. For us, we probably just didn’t deliver on the day and we have learned a lesson from that.
“We are taking every game in our stride and trying to be better than we were. After the Saints [Cup] game we had a massive point to prove and I think we have taken that into every game.”

The top four teams from the first part of the season play each other home and away in the Super-4s. The league leaders after that will go straight through to the final, with the second- and third-placed sides playing off for the other spot.
It means tough matches every week and Glynn insisted: “No disrespect to the other teams, but the top four are the ones you look forward to. Probably throughout the league everyone’s feeling the same.
“You want to be challenged week-in and week-out. I don’t think you can predict who is going to finish where because these games are going to take their toll. I think that’s the exciting part, it is who can grind it out and get to where we are looking to go, which is the Grand Final.”
