Mixed injury news for Leeds Rhinos ahead of Women's Challenge Cup semi-final v St Helens
There’s mixed news for Leeds Rhinos ahead of Sunday’s Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final against St Helens.
Leeds could welcome back several players who missed the 68-0 quarter-final hammering of Cardiff Demons two two weeks ago, but Evie Cousins - who scored six tries in Rhinos’ two group games, against Leigh Leopards and London Broncos - has been ruled out. England star Keara Bennett is hoping to be available for the big game at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium following a shoulder injury and coach Lois Forsell said: “There could be quite a few changes from the Cardiff game.
“Some of the decisions were rotation and some were because of knocks and niggles. Keara has been back in training so she could be available for selection. We need to look at everyone in training and make the decision on the balance of the squad.”

Evie Cousins crossed twice when Rhinos won 82-0 at Leigh in their opening game of the season, but was injured after scoring four tries in the subsequent 72-0 win against London. Forsell said: “Evie has had a scan on her hamstring and we’re waiting to hear back. I am not expecting it to be long-term, but she won’t be available for selection this weekend.
“It is a massive shame for Evie because she has had a tough run with injuries, but her mindset has never wavered. She is a really good player and mentally she’s as tough as she is physically. Whenever she’s had a setback she has come back even better.
“She is a massive loss for us in terms of what she was doing in the early round of the Cup, but we have got strength in depth and it is up to us to make sure we still keep firing.”
