Super League semi-final opponents confirmed for Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity
Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity now know their opponents in next weekend’s play-off semi-finals.
Warrington Wolves’ 35-12 win against Hull KR this evening (Saturday) means they will travel to AMT Headingley on Friday and Wakefield Trinity are away to Wigan Warriors the following afternoon. Warrington, who finished third in the table, are the highest-ranked victors from the elimination ties. Wakefield ended the regular season one place lower.
The current play-off format sees the top two on the table have a bye through the opening round, followed by home advantage in the semi-finals. Wigan, as Betfred Super League leaders, play the lowest-ranked team from round one.

Leeds beat Warrington home and away in the weekly rounds, winning 26-22 at Headingley in March and 34-6 in the return fixture three months later. Warrington, though, finished behind Rhinos only on points difference and are in better recent form having won eight of their last nine games. Leeds go into next week on the back of successive defeats and losses in their final three home matches.
Wakefield suffered three defeats to Wigan this season, including in the Challenge Cup, but secured their first appearance in the Betfred Super League last-four with an impressive 29-16 home victory over fifth-placed Leigh Leopards on Friday. The semi-final winners will meet at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 3.
