Wakefield Trinity decide on Emre Guler ban appeal ahead of Super League semi-final v Wigan Warriors
Wakefield Trinity are making a last-ditch attempt to have forward Emre Guler available for this weekend’s crucial fixture at Wigan Warriors.
Saturday’s play-off semi-final is the biggest game in Trinity’s Betfred Super League history, but they are set to be without prop Guler as he begins a two-match ban. The suspension will also rule him out of next week’s Grand Final, if Wakefield win at Wigan.
Guler is a recent signing from St George-Illawarra Dragons. Originally due to move to Wakefield next year, he was brought in early and made the first of his four appearances so far away to Wigan a month ago. He was handed 17 penalty points after being charged by the RFL’s match review panel with Grade E punching following his sending-off in last Friday’s play-off eliminator against Leigh Leopards. He will plead his case before an operational rules tribunal this afternoon/evening (Tuesday).

Hull KR, who were knocked out of the play-offs by Warrington Wolves last Saturday, have accepted a two-match ban handed to their centre Peta Hiku for a similar offence. Hiku will serve his punishment in pre-season.
