Wakefield Trinity man makes NRL move as Castleford Tigers sign loan star from Leigh Leopards
A Wakefield Trinity player is heading to the NRL, while Castleford Tigers have signed one of their loan men from Leigh Leopards.
Australian-born back-rower Zac Lipowicz is the second Trinity player to pen a deal with southern hemisphere newcomers Perth Bears, after hooker Tyson Smoothy. The 24-year-old Poland international has played twice for Wakefield since joining them from Betfred Super League rivals Catalans Dragons last month.
The former Penrith Panthers man, who was combining reserve grade rugby in Australia with a full-time job as a carpenter just two years ago, will join Bears in 2027 on a 12-month development contract. He said: “I’m just grateful for the chance to be part of this squad. I want to come in, learn from the group, and do whatever I can to help the team.”

Meanwhile, Tigers have confirmed the signing of Leigh half-back or hooker Ben McNamara on a two-year deal. McNamara, 25, joined them on loan last month and will link up with Wakefield play-maker Mason Lino in next season’s squad.
He said: “I spoke with the club earlier in the year and once I knew they were interested I was keen to get something done early. I really like the set up here, everything is nice and close together. Everyone has been welcoming, so I’m looking forward to making the move to Castleford full time.”
Castleford director of rugby Chris Chester added: “Ben offers us some real versatility, being able to play at both the nine position and in the halves. He will give us some depth in the squad and we’re excited about what he can bring to our playing group.”
