Wakefield Trinity news: best in Super League prediction made as star signs new long-term deal

A key player has been tipped to become one of the best in Super League after committing his long-term future to Wakefield Trinity.

Matty Storton’s new contract will keep him at the club until the end of 2029, adding two years to the deal signed when he joined Trinity from Hull KR ahead of last season. The 26-year-old forward scored four tries in 15 appearances last year, despite suffering a serious knee injury early in the campaign,

Keighley-born Storton has 108 Betfred Super League games to his name, having come through Bradford Bulls’ academy and joined the Robins in 2020. He said: “Wakefield Trinity is a great club, from the fans to the coaching staff and to Matt [Ellis, the club owner] and his family. It’s the best decision I ever made joining the club.

“We’ve signed some really good players and we have a big core of players, along with myself, that are now signed up long term. The more we stay together, both on and off the field, we’ll just continue to improve as a group and hopefully we can strive for some silverware this season.”

Coach Daryl Powell enthused: “I’m delighted Matty has agreed to an extension to his contract. He has been a pleasure to have around and his form last year was some of the best I’ve seen him have in his career. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow and drive his standards even further to become one of the premier back-rowers in Super League.”

Wakefield director of rugby Ste Mills added: “Matty started last season like a house on fire and we can all see what a player he can become with us. Being able to play in the second-row or the middle gives us some versatility. We are looking forward to watching him grow in the coming years.”
