Wakefield Trinity news: NRL Grand Final winner named in strong squad for Hull KR pre-season test
NRL Grand Final winner Tyson Smoothy is set to make his first appearance for Wakefield Trinity in Sunday’s pre-season game at Hull KR.
Smoothy - who can play hooker or loose-forward - was a substitute for Brisbane Broncos when they beat Melbourne Storm in a dramatic southern hemisphere title decider three months ago. Forward Caleb Hamlin-Uele is set to return from the long-term shoulder injury which marred his 2025 season and winger Tom Johnstone will feature for the first time since Ashes duty with England against Australia last autumn.
Off-season signings Jack Sinfield, Jordan Williams, Kian McGann and Will Tate all back up from Trinity’s Boxing Day defeat at Leeds Rhinos, but fellow recruits Jazz Tevaga and Tray Lolesio aren’t included. Tevaga is one of only four players from Trinity’s top 13 not involved, along with Mason Lino, Mike McMeeken and Ky Rodwell.

Trinity’s squad to face Hull KR is: Max Jowitt, Oliver Pratt, Cameron Scott, Corey Hall, Tom Johnstone, Jake Trueman, Tyson Smoothy, Seth Nikotemo, Matty Storton, Jay Pitts, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Caius Faatili, Harvey Smith, Isaiah Vagana, Lachlan Walmsley, Jack Sinfield, Jayden Myers, Josh Rourke, Tray Lolesio, Jordan Williams, Noah High, Kian McGann, Will Tate.
