'We can damage them': Hunslet RLFC out to end London Broncos' 100 per cent winning record

Boss Kyle Trout is confident Hunslet can “damage” runaway Championship leaders London Broncos at South Leeds Stadium, despite naming only a 17-man squad.

London have won all their league fixtures so far and will open a six-point gap on second-placed Newcastle Thunder - who Hunslet visit next Saturday - if they can pick up a 13th successive victory tomorrow (Sunday). The return of Billy Jowitt and Myles Harrop will boost Hunslet’s backline, though they are light on forwards in the middle of the field.

However, Trout insisted: “London are a good team, obviously gunning for Super League, but they haven’t really been challenged this year. We want to compete against the best and test ourselves. I was actually glad we got London in the fixtures; we are dangerous in attack and if we stay in the game and stick to our processes, we can damage them.”

Hunslet are on the back of a 36-22 defeat at Barrow Raiders last Sunday, but Trout noted: “For 25/30 minutes we looked like a top-four team. We need to do that for 80 minutes. We need to learn to feel the game, keep the foot down, but not get over emotional.”

Tomorrow is Hunslet’s ‘Superheroes Day’, sponsored by the Darby Rimmer MND foundation and with members of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow’s family in attendance.

Hunslet (v London Broncos): from Harrop, Gaskell, Abram, Hallas, Gilmore, Battye, Berry, Simpson, Watson, Carr, Ward, Turner, O’Hanlon, Graham, Hatton, Walker, Tydeman.

Referee: Denton Arnold (St Helens). Kick-off: Sunday, 3pm.
