Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity: big changes as 21-man squads named for crucial Super League clash
Wakefield Trinity coach Daryl Powell has made five changes to his initial squad for Friday’s crunch game at Wigan Warriors, with two new signings set to make their debut.
Zac Lipowicz is included in Trinity’s 21 after joining them from Catalans Dragons this week on a deal until the end of the season and there’s also a place for fellow forward Emre Guler. His three-year contract was due to begin in 2027, but he has obtained an early release from St George-Illawarra Dragons allowing him to make the move with immediate effect.
Young back Oliver Pratt is set to return from a hamstring injury suffered in a home victory against Hull KR two months ago and Kian McGann and Myles Lawford have also been drafted in. Trinity will be without winger Tom Johnstone, full-back Josh Rourke and second-rower Isaiah Vagana after they picked up injuries during last Saturday’s defeat by St Helens. Loose-forward Jazz Tevaga is serving a one-game ban and Will Tate, who was 18th man last week, also drops out.

Hooker Brad O’Neill will return after suspension for Wigan and centre Finlay Yeomans also comes into contention. Lewis Daniels and Evan Buckley, who weren’t in the 17 at Bradford Bulls last weekend, step down from the initial group. Wigan will go top of Betfred Super League if they win. Wakefield have slipped to fourth in the table, just two points ahead of Hull KR and Leigh Leopards and are in danger of missing out on a home play-off.
Trinity’s 21 is: Max Jowitt, Oliver Pratt, Cameron Scott, Corey Hall, Jake Trueman, Mike McMeeken, Tyson Smoothy, Ky Rodwell, Matty Storton, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Caius Faatili, Harvey Smith, Lachlan Walmsley, Jack Sinfield, Jayden Myers, Tray Lolesio, Jordan Williams, Zac Lipowicz, Myles Lawford, Kian McGann, Emre Guler.
Wigan’s 21 is: Jai Field, Zach Eckersley, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Ethan Havard, Brad O’Neill, Luke Thompson, Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago, Ollie Partington, Sam Eseh, Kian McDermott, Taylor Kerr, George O’Loughlin, Finlay Yeomans, Josh Cartwright, Austin Daniel, Shea O’Connor.
