Yorkshire rugby league icon continues record-breaking career: ex-Wakefield Trinity man set for 28th season
A West Yorkshire rugby league phenomenon has vowed to continue his record-breaking career.
Former Super League star Paul Sykes has re-signed with hometown club Dewsbury Rams for what will be his 28th season at professional level. Sykes, who turned 44 in August, made his debut for Bradford Bulls in 1999 and has played 550 career games at club and representative level.
Sykes this year surpassed Rugby League Hall of Fame founder member Gus Risman’s record of 26 consecutive seasons. He also played in Super League for London Broncos and Wakefield Trinity and had a spell with Featherstone Rovers before joining Rams 10 years ago.

His career tally of 155 tries and 1,095 goals in 550 games includes one appearance for Great Britain and five England caps. He also featured for England’s second-string Knights.
Coach Paul March told Rams’ website: “What more can you say about Sykesy? He is a true marvel of the game. His physical condition is a testament to his dedication and his rugby brain is second to none.”
