Jet fuel supply: Leeds-based Jet2 issues update on flights amid fears of 'systemic' jet fuel shortage
Leeds-based Jet2 has responded to social media queries from customers concerned about jet fuel supply.
Airline Jet2 - which has its headquarters at Leeds Bradford Airport - has given an update to concerned customers amid ongoing jet fuel disruptions.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz - a key passage for jet fuel out of the Gulf - in the Iran war has caused the price of jet fuel to surge and led to fears of shortages.
The Airports Council International (ACI), which represents more than 600 airports, has said that Europe could see a “systemic” shortage of jet fuel if the Strait of Hormuz does not properly reopen.
Olivier Jankovec, Director-general of ACI, said: "At this stage, we understand that if the passage through the Strait of Hormuz does not resume in any significant and stable way within the next three weeks, systemic jet fuel shortage is set to become a reality for the EU. The fact that we are entering the peak summer season is only adding to those concerns."

Air New Zealand said on 7 April it would increase fares and cut flights in response to the disruption to jet fuel supplies. Lufthansa said it would ground 27 planes servicing its CityLine regional subsidiary earlier than planned, citing jet fuel prices and costs from industrial action. Norse Atlantic Airways has cancelled all routes to Los Angeles, including flights from London Gatwick Airport due to the rise in fuel prices.
Now Jet2 has issued an update on its upcoming flights amid the jet fuel supply concerns. Concerned customers queried the airline on social media platform X to check whether flights would be going ahead as planned.
One X user said: "@jet2tweets Hi there - we are looking to go away for a week to Malaga in June and want to know how concerned we should be about the reporting of lack of airport fuel and what happens to our holiday should something like this happen and impact our holiday. Can you help…?"
Another X user said: "@jet2tweets are holidays going ahead as usual? We’ve booked an all inclusive 10 day to Crete in June. I’m worried about jet fuel prices."
In response, Jet2 said: "All flights are planned to go ahead as normal. If anything were to change regarding your booking, we would be sure to reach out to you directly to make you aware, and discuss the options available to you."
